Names are much more than simple labels — they hold stories, traditions, and meanings that connect us to our past. Onomasticó is an essential reference book that explores the origins, meanings, and evolution of Catalan names, as well as many from other cultures. It is a journey into memory, identity, and language, perfect for those who are curious about the roots of their own name or simply love learning about cultural heritage.
This book expands the traditional Catalan santoral by including names not only of Christian or Catalan origin, but also names with Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, Germanic and other roots. Each entry offers the meaning of the name, its etymology, historical or religious context, and in many cases, its variations in other languages. A valuable tool for parents choosing a name, genealogy enthusiasts, historians, writers, or anyone passionate about language and tradition.
Understanding the origin of names helps us understand ourselves better. Names evolve over time, adapt to languages and cultures, and carry with them stories of saints, legends, and historical figures. With 246 pages in a practical 17 × 12 cm format, Onomasticó becomes an accessible and inspiring companion, ideal both for consultation and for quiet reading.
